Anthony “Cheeko” Te Kurapa

Born and bred in Ruatahuna, Cheeko has spent his life in Te Urewera. He is a seasoned hunter and horseman and has made his livelihood combining these two passions. Having spent the majority of his life hunting to eat and making a living off venison recovery, Cheeko has developed a legacy as a skilled Tūhoe hunter. Cheeko is not only a wealth of knowledge in terms of hunting but also local history and culture. Come along for a ride with Cheeko and experience Tūhoe manakitanga (hospitality) and culture in its most authentic context.

Kieran Te Kurapa

Following in his father’s footsteps, Kieran has developed a passion for horsemanship, hunting and Te Urewera. Raised in Ruatahuna, Kieran has a strong affinity with the land and Tūhoe way of life. Working as an Outdoor Education teacher and tour guide, Kieran lives and breathes his enthusiasm for the outdoors. Kai (food) and cooking is an essential component that he enjoys sharing with others especially using locally sourced, hunted and gathered produce.

Great people with a wealth of knowledge on hunting, and the outdoors. Kieran and Cheeko went above and beyond for our entire school group. I can’t wait to go back.
